The Great Grey Owl is often referred to as the Great Grey Ghost. A large Owl with an average wingspan of 56 inches. The facial disk is used to focus sound and allows them to hear prey 2 ft under the snow. Yellow eyed owls have diverse feeding habits and are not strictly nocturnal or crepuscular. This is a good thing for a photographer as they are often active during the day.
